Job Summary The Director of Application Development plans, organizes staff, and monitors all processes for applications development including acquisition of programming tools; management of application development and strategic architecture; and overall applications planning for the Chicago Booth Information Technology Department. This position also manages a data warehousing team that supports the Student Data Warehouse and the Enterprise Data Hub. Responsibilities
    • Designs, develops and supports custom software applications and integrations to third-party vendor applications utilized by faculty, staff, students and alumni.
    • Leads / manages the Application Developers, Data Warehouse Analyst, Database Administrator and Applications Architect.
    • Plans resource allocations for both projects and day-to-day development activities.
    • Builds strong partnerships across the business to ensure priorities are understood and met.
    • Assigns tasks and monitors development progress compared to plans.
    • Member of the Change Advisory Board and responsible for scheduling application deployments.
    • Assists the Chief Information Officer with the Booth application strategy.
    • Collaborates with client departments to design and plan the implementation of new applications or enhancement of existing systems.
    • Researches new technologies appropriate to systems development.
    • Manages programming staff through subordinates, usually other managers. Establishes performance goals, allocates resources, directs training, and assesses policies for direct subordinates.
    • Executes functional business plans and contributes to the development of overall programming strategy. Oversees the departmental budget.
    • Performs other related work as needed. Minimum Qualifications Education: Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field. Work Experience: Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 10+ years of work experience in a related job discipline. Certifications: None required. Preferred Qualifications Experience:
      • A minimum twelve years of experience in IT development/operations, including at least eight years in a leadership role.
      • A minimum two years of experience leading an application development area of similar or larger size.
      • Managing a staff of IT professionals.
      • Leading an IT organization for a highly decentralized, people and data intensive business, either in the commercial or non-profit sectors. Technical Skills or Knowledge:
        • Knowledgeable in Web technologies, ASP.NET technology, and MS SQL Server.
        • Expertise in application development architecture, processes, methodologies, and disciplines.
        • Expertise in evaluating 3rd party solutions and vendor negotiations. Preferred Competencies
          • A proven track record for recruiting and retaining outstanding technical and managerial talent.
          • Working horizontally across an organization to implement change. Working Conditions
