• The Registered Nurse is a practitioner who is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for an identified group of patients in an inpatient environment.
• Demonstrates competency in delivery of care to a primarily adult population.
• Incorporated essential functions are adapted from the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice, 2nd Edition (2010).

  • Assessment: Collects comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health and/or the situation.
  • Diagnosis: Analyzes the assessment data to determine diagnoses or issues.
  • Outcomes Identification: Identifies expected outcomes for an individualized plan.
  • Planning: Develops a plan with strategies and alternatives to attain expected outcomes.
  • Implementation: Implements the identified plan.
  • Evaluation: Evaluates progress toward attainment of outcomes.
  • Quality of Practice: Contributes to quality nursing practice.
  • The RN may function in the scrub role in the operating room after completing training/competency.
  • Practices ethically and utilizes appropriate resources.
  • Collaborates with patients, families, and others in nursing practice.
