Norris provides treatment, educational, and therapeutic recreational services to youth ages 8 through 18 and their families. Youth receive services related to mental health, emotional behavioral disorders, problematic sexualized behaviors, AODA, and trauma. The Norris team strives to provide the best quality care to youth and families by making meaningful connections and providing a safe space for individuals to heal.

Under the direct supervision of the Buildings & Grounds Supervisor, the HVAC, Buildings & Grounds Specialist is responsible for the general maintenance of Norris Inc. buildings and grounds, including HVAC work. This position provides general maintenance at an intermediate knowledge level in areas such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing and painting related to maintenance. This position involves the repair of buildings and equipment, inspects assigned areas on a routine basis and performs maintenance where necessary to keep the campus and facilities in functioning and serviceable condition.

HVAC Maintenance

  • Installs, maintains and repairs ventilation, heating, cooling and air conditioning systems and equipment.
  • Identifies maintenance risks on equipment.
  • Diagnoses electrical and mechanical faults for HVAC systems.
  • Cleans, adjusts and repairs systems, and performs warranty services.
  • Performs emergency repairs promptly and efficiently.
  • Provides technical direction and on-the-job training.
  • Keeps daily logs and records of all maintenance functions.
  • Ensures compliance with appliance standards and with Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Complies with all applicable HVAC codes and maintains a safe work environment.
    Cleaning, Maintenance, & Repair
    • Responsible for the daily cleaning and servicing of Norris facilities and grounds according to assigned work orders and supervisory requests.
    • Demonstrate knowledge, use, and safety of cleaning supplies and chemicals.
    • Must be able to operate and maintain a wide variety of custodial and ground equipment.
    • Report both verbally and in writing, items in need of repair or replacement.
    • Actively participates in routine cleaning and light maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
    • Participates in the on-call maintenance rotation schedule.
      Supply Management & Distribution
      • Responsibilities include ordering, maintaining, and stocking of supplies, keeping accurate accounting records ensuring fiscal responsibility.
      • Delivers materials, supplies in a timely and efficient manner while following all OSHA safe lifting practices to avoid injury to self and others.
        Buildings & Grounds Maintenance
        • Assists in maintaining grounds which includes snowplowing, shoveling and salting of walkway, mowing lawns, trimming, edging, planting, spraying, pruning, raking, watering, removing litter from grounds, sweeping, cleaning out ditches, culverts, etc. and shoveling, salting, sanding, and plowing snow using related tools and machinery.
        • Assists in performing routine and light preventative maintenance and repairs on all ground equipment keeping tools and equipment in good working orders, notifying supervisor in writing when repairs are needed.
        • Active involvement in the maintenance and repair of Norris Grounds and Buildings including interior and exterior repairs of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and painting including walls, floors, woodwork, fixtures and other duties as assigned.
        • Must have knowledge of proper tools use and safety for assigned tasks and ensure tools are cleaned and stored properly when the task is completed and immediately reports both verbally and in writing to their supervisor items in need of repair and replacement.
        • Be able and prepared to respond to changing weather conditions.
          Teaming & Collaboration
          • Demonstrates positive and effective communication skills with direct team members and with other team members across program areas and teams.
          • Supports and follows through on team decisions and established task assignments within the maintenance department.
          • Helps support an environment and peer interactions that are aligned with Norris' trauma informed philosophy and practice.
          • Is able to provide and receive constructive criticism from peers and leaders.
          • Demonstrates effective communication which is objective and respectful with all individuals.
          • Demonstrates an ability to develop and maintain a positive and professional working relationships with peers and leaders across campus, including Norris Academy.
          • Demonstrates strong ability to write and speak clearly and with professionalism.
          • Actively participates in team meetings and other workgroups across Norris.
          • Responds in a timely and respectful manner to verbal and written requests from other employees and leaders.
          • May be assigned to supervise, instruct and train youth as part of a youth vocational program and serves as an appropriate adult role model.
          • Supports peers and team members in other duties, roles and responsibilities, as needed.
            Quality Assurance & Documentation
            • Ensures compliance with federal, state and local regulatory requirements and best practice for maintaining all areas of responsibility.
            • Assists direct supervisor with meeting OSHA regulations and compliance/safety standards.
            • Provides accurate and professional documentation including, but not limited to maintenance reports, supplies requests, etc. as required by policies, protocols and procedures.
            • Consistently completes paperwork including work orders within established due dates/timeframes.
            • Demonstrates proficiency in the use of Norris approved technologies/devices.
            • Customer service is consistent with licensing requirements, internal policies and procedures as well as best practices and in alignment with accreditation standards.
            • Communicates effectively and timely with the supervisor on areas of opportunity that would improve overall processes and efficiency within the maintenance department.
            • Helps to ensure the physical environment is in accordance with State rules and regulations as well as accreditation standards ensuring buildings and grounds are safe, clean, and orderly.
